The Ottawa Senators are down a veteran forward.
David Perron will miss five to seven weeks with a sports hernia injury that requires surgery, head coach Travis Green told reporters on Thursday.
In a corresponding move, the Senators recalled forward Stephen Halliday from the AHL earlier Thursday. Halliday immediately joined the NHL club for practice, skating in place of Perron on a line with Nick Cousins and Lars Eller, per Julian McKenzie of The Athletic.
Perron, 37, has been bothered by the injury for a while, per Green. Still, he's skated in all 49 games for the Senators this season, tallying 10 goals and 15 assists.
The veteran of 1,223 NHL games is sitting on 329 goals and 480 assists for his career.
Halliday, 23, has played 18 games for the Senators, recording six assists. He has two goals and 24 assists in 22 AHL games.
Elsewhere, goalie Linus Ullmark was also on the ice for practice, though it remains unclear when he will make his return to the roster.
The Senators visit the Nashville Predators on Thursday.
